Ford’s Infotainment System Continues To Exhibit Defects

Owners of 2011 and 2012 model-year Ford vehicles equipped with MyFord Touch™ will start receiving an upgrade to the infotainment and control system this week in the mail. This is just the latest from Ford in a series of attempts to try and remedy the touch screen and voice recognition systems which have been riddled with defects. There are approximately 300,000 customers who will be receiving Ford’s latest upgrade. Previous efforts from Ford to attempt to fix this defect included issuing Technical Service Bulletins and Special Service Messages, which are repair procedures created by Ford engineers and given to dealers. Unfortunately, Ford’s efforts have yet to fully remedy this problem. In fact, this wide spread defect has caused Ford vehicles to drop in quality scores by third parties such as Consumer Reports and J.D. Power and Associates.

Krohn & Moss, Ltd. has been effectively assisting Ford customers in Lemon Law claims involving the defective MyFord Touch™ and Sync systems since the systems’ inception. Recently, a Krohn & Moss, Ltd. client in Illinois prevailed at a Court ordered arbitration hearing involving the defective MyFord Touch™ system and recovered substantial monetary damages. Eric Kaczander, an attorney at Krohn & Moss, Ltd. who prosecuted the claim on behalf of the aggrieved consumer commented, “Ford recognizes it built a vehicle that has defects and it’s time for Ford to start owning up to its mistake and reimburse consumers for its failure to repair these vehicles within a reasonable number of attempts.”

A search at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”) website reveals a multitude of similar consumer complaints regarding Ford vehicles equipped with the Sync feature. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/complaints/results.cfm. Likewise, at Edmunds.com, other owners of vehicles with the Ford Sync technology have complained with articles creatively titled, “My Touch – Sync Stink” and “Sync or Sink?” http://www.edmunds.com/ford/edge/2011/consumer-reviews.html?sub=suv&ps=used.
