Over 2 million North American Ford vehicles, including the Ford F-150, are being recalled due to a faulty door latch that may result in car doors opening when moving. Recalled vehicles are also experiencing brake issues that may make it difficult for specific models to stop safely.
The Door Latch Portion
Regarding the door-latch issue, Ford is planning on repairing a part in the latches that had a high risk of cracking and/or breaking in extreme temperatures. In some circumstances, this results in doors failing to close altogether. If drivers try to close the door, it may stay shut temporarily only to open again during driving. This is the second recall of its kind, as the previous recall may not have fixed the issue properly.
Impacted vehicles of the door latch portion of the recall include 2011 through 2016 model years of the Escape, the Fiesta, the Mustang, and the Lincoln MKZ and MKC models.
The Brake Portion
The other portion of the recall revolves around brakes that may leak brake fluid. The leaking of brake fluid may reduce the functionality of the front brakes. Impacted vehicles include the Ford F-150 from 2014-2017 model years, and Ford is aware of seven low-speed crashes and two injuries relating to this recall.
