Nearly 4,400 Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus owners have issued complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for faulty transmissions. When transmissions do not function properly, they can cause cars to randomly speed up, stall, roll backward, or shake violently, putting drivers in immediate danger.
What Vehicles Are Affected?
The cars that are reported to have faulty DPS6 transmissions include the Ford Focus, with model years ranging between 2012 and 2016, and the Ford Fiesta, with model years ranging between 2011 and 2016.
Customers have reported at least 50 injuries to federal authorities related to symptoms of the defect. A large number of consumers have also reported narrowly avoiding dangerous accidents as a result of the faulty transmissions.
Ford’s Involvement
As reported by the Detroit Free Press, internal Ford documents show that the company cut corners to boost fuel efficiency and save money. The Detroit Free Press further noted that Ford knowingly launched sales of the lemon Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta models with defective transmissions, and later, when the depth of the problem was obvious, declined to make a change in the transmission technology.
At least 1.5 million faulty Ford Focus and Fiesta models remain on the road and continue to put their owners at risk.
