Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling approximately 10,021 Chrysler plug-in hybrid vans due to an issue that may result in either a stall or the increased risk of a fire. There is a chance that the gas engine does not start properly after the vehicle was operating in its electric driving mode. This can result in unburned gasoline entering the exhaust catalyst which could potentially ignite and start a fire.
FCA reported the issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and noted that the powertrain control software could synchronize the four-cycle engine 360 degrees out of phase. This leads to the electric motor to continue to spin, causing significant amounts of unburned fuel to possibly start on fire.
Affected Cars
Your vehicle may be affected if it is a 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid that has the production dates of August 16, 2016 through August 7, 2018.
