While airbags are a crucial part of keeping passengers safe when they’re in an accident, malfunctioning airbags can be dangerous and even fatal if they go off at the wrong time. Mazda Motor Corporation has recently recalled 270,000 vehicles that have an airbag explosion risk.
The unexpected explosion of airbags can cause serious injuries to both drivers and passengers in the car, as well as surrounding cars on the road. Airbags are unexpectedly going off in certain Mazda models because of exposure to humidity, and airbags may explode when there is a crash, releasing metal shrapnel in the process.
Recalled cars include the following:
- Certain 2003-2008 Mazda6 vehicles
- 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 vehicles
- 2004 MPV vehicles nationwide
- 2005-2006 MPV models in certain states
