Gregory Moss, an attorney at Krohn & Moss, Ltd. Consumer Law Center®, has nearly two dozen cases where consumers have experienced serious malfunctions with their 2014 or 2015 Jeep Cherokee. These cases are similar to the one that NBC5 Responds in Chicago covered in Valpraiso, Indiana involving the Jones’ family.
Marty and Heidi Jones were having difficulties with their new vehicle, so much so that they refused to drive it anymore. Their Jeep Cherokee would randomly stop almost every single day, unable to accelerate again, even while they were in the middle of an intersection. The Jones’ family is not alone; there have been 492 additional complaints by consumers, including the people that Krohn & Moss, Ltd. Consumer Law Center® are representing.
When speaking to NBC5 Responds, Gregory Moss explained that these vehicles are “like a Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” situation because the Jeeps are “doing things nobody would expect it to do”. The culprit of the stalling is being traced back to the nine-speed transmission, which no consumer car has had previously. Even after consumers have upgraded the software and the mechanics flashed the transmission control module, the stalling continued.
This inability to accelerate is extremely concerning, particularly for those with children. Not having control over your own vehicle can put you and your family in a life-or-death situation, so it is important to take action. For Mr. and Mrs. Jones’, this meant the local dealership purchased their Jeep Cherokee back for $30,000.00.
