760,000 RAV-4s, and 18,000 Lexus HS250Hs, to be more precise. Toyota recalled the affected RAV-4 and Lexus vehicles on August 1, 2012, due to a suspension problem that is caused by improper tightening of suspension nuts that are adjusted during routine alignment. An automobile recall is a request to return to the manufacturer a defective product or part due to the discovery of safety issues.
The Toyota RAV-4 is a very popular vehicle in many respects. Since its introduction in 1996, the RAV-4 has gained more and more popularity with consumers for its quick acceleration and commendable handling. In fact, for each of the last several years, Toyota has sold over 100,000 RAV-4s per year in the United States alone. Even rap superstars Jay-Z and Kanye West gave the vehicle an honorable mention in the hit song “Run This Town,” which was released in 2009 (“This a fast life, we on a crash course, what you think I rap for, to push a [expletive] Rav-4?”). The reference to a “crash course” in the same verse of the song makes the lemon law attorneys at Krohn & Moss, Ltd. wonder if the rap duo knew something about this suspension defect before the general public, or even before Toyota. Let us know your thoughts on our facebook page.
BEWARE, though, because some of these sporty and popular vehicles have a very serious safety defect in the suspension. According to Toyota’s documents submitted to NHTSA, some “backlash” may develop in the suspension that may cause excessive wear and eventually cause failure of the suspension system, which could result in loss of control of the vehicle
If a manufacturer issues a recall, it is required by law to notify the owners of the defective vehicle and provide a free remedy for repair or replacement of the defective part.
