Volkswagen and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (parent company to Jeep) are recalling select vehicles with faulty air bag crash sensors. The sensors on certain models may have been exposed to high heat during production, causing damage to the part’s soldering connections. The weakened connections may result in delayed airbag deployment or failure to deploy, increasing the risk of injury to both the driver and passenger during a crash.
Which Vehicles Are Affected?
- 2018 Volkswagen Atlas
- 2019 Jeep Cherokee SUVs
Vehicle owners with affected models should contact Volkswagen (1-800-893-5298) or FCA (1-800-853-1403) for information regarding the recall. You can also visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration online and enter your 17-digit VIN number to confirm if your vehicle has been impacted by the recall.
The Solution
Volkswagen and Fiat Chrysler Automobile dealers will be replacing the airbag crash sensor for free on affected models.
