BMW is recalling over 1.6 million vehicles worldwide; they are recalling nearly 54,700 BMW vehicles within the United States and Canada. After fires were reported in South Korea, the automaker decided to announce a recall. The recall covers specific BMW diesel vehicles made between 2010 and 2017, of which owners would be notified.
The recalled vehicles are experiencing fluid leaks that could lead to a fire. The coolant in some diesel vehicles could potentially leak from the exhaust gas recirculation module, which is part of the emissions reduction system. Because of this condition, the leaks could combine with soot at high temperatures and cause a fire.
If you believe your vehicle could be affected, and BMW may not have contacted you, you can check for any open recalls that apply to your vehicle on the BMW Safety and Emission site. Simply enter your Vehicle Identification Number here to get the information you need.
